How to Practice Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to your well-being than just training and eating healthy meals. Taking a comprehensive idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is critical for your overall well-being. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are a few of our favorite methods for practicing self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be working on social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with each other! Schedule a digital coffee time or happy hour with your friends. Keep topics cheerful and tell each other a good thing that happened to you in the last week. Brainstorm plans for when you can see each other again and how wonderful it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are stronger and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are made for!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Create a schedule for your time but let there be some flexibility. For instance, set an alarm for around the same time every morning and get ready for bed around the same time every night. Draft your intentions for the day and slate out your work tasks, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to relax with your favorite book. Don’t be too rigorous with your agenda that you add unnecessary stress. Maintaining a balance between a program and recreation will help you have a more useful and rewarding day.

Practice Gratitude

Appreciation is good for anyone. The more gratitude we offer to others during difficult times, the happier and more resilient we become. Offer others grace. One of our preferred ways to exercise gratitude is to contact a loved one and express to them how much you love them. A a written note is also a welcome and wonderful surprise that is sure to make anyone’s day.

Get Outside

There is nothing better than spending time outdoors, breathing the fresh air. Take a walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re doing. Stay in the sunshine for a while and try taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t savor a good meal! Experiment with a new dish for dinner and make your meals feel like an event. Listen to your favorite music, get the kids in on it, and have a fun time with it!

A Self-Care Staycation

Your attitude affects your daily life and determines your actions. And during these uncertain times, it’s even more crucial to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this moment to create healthy routines and emerge from this quarantine healthier and happier!
